The Interesting Common Hoopoe Bird

Here is a very interesting bird. This bird is found in many parts of Europe, Asia and Africa and as you can tell from the pictures, its unique feature is the crown of feathers on its head. The Hoopoe bird is considered medium sized and on average weights 1.3 to 1.6 oz with a wing span of 9.8 to 12.6 inches.

Most of the birds living in Europe and Northern Asia migrate to tropical locations for the winter. Yet the Hoopoe's of Africa stay put as the winters are not drastic enough to warrant migrating.

In 197,5 the Hoopoe was recorded as being seen in Alaska on the Yukon Delta, but it's not normal for them to be in that area or that far North.
